ANNAPOLIS, Md. (September 15, 2005) – Brown Contracting has been selected to serve as general contractor for the new Kyma restaurant in Annapolis, a contemporary upscale-casual restaurant and lounge that will specialize in Mediterranean Tapas-style dishes.

The Annapolis-based general contractor will oversee construction of the interior, utilizing many of the original materials from the building located at 69 West Street. Exposed brick walls and wood floors will be accented by an open kitchen with the wood-burning oven, while each floor will have a contemporary bar with a lounge on the second floor. The two dining rooms will feature contemporary designs over rustic features.

“The high end finishes, new foundations and Historic Preservation aspects make this project unique,” said Richard Butts, project manager at Brown Contracting. “Managing the flow of materials at this busy and crowded downtown location will be a challenge, and we are fortunate to have a great team led by an experienced owner and architect.”

Kyma will be operated by the management of Mie N Yu, an eclectic upscale restaurant in the historic Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The Mie N Yu group has partnered with the Sfakiyanudis family of Annapolis, the building’s owner.

Other members of the team include Adamstein & Demetriou Architects, Washington, D.C., Next Step Design of Annapolis, foodservice consultant, and Washington, D.C.-based Tasty Concepts, graphic designer.

This will be Brown Contracting’s latest restaurant project in the region, including the Annapolis Yacht Club’s Skipjack Restaurant, The Rockfish, Carrol’s Creek and Boatyard Bar & Grill. In downtown Baltimore, Brown Contracting served as general contractor for Blue Sea Grill on Water Street.
